De Beers Q3 Sales Volume Rises 71% Year On Year On Price Cuts

Performance Remains Weighed Down By A Shift Toward Lower-Value Goods and Ongoing Pressure From Lab-Grown Diamonds

Published

on

De Beers Q3 total rough-diamond sales volume jumped 71% year-on-year to 9.8M carats. Consolidated volume surged 91% to 8.7M carats, driven by aggressive July price cuts that sparked buyer demand.

Price Drop Capped Revenue: The average selling price tumbled 45% to $84/carat (price index down 20%). As a result, Q3 consolidated revenue rose only 4% to $731M, while year-to-date revenue dropped 15% to $2.04B.

Production Target Raised: 2026 production guidance increased to 25–28M carats following full acquisition of the Gahcho Kué mine, boosting De Beers’ share of output without adding extra supply to the global market.

Market Pressures: Performance remains weighed down by a shift toward lower-value goods and ongoing pressure from lab-grown diamonds in price-sensitive categories.

Signs of Stability: Anglo American reported stabilizing rough-diamond conditions, supported by improved consumer demand in the US and India and a better-balanced supply-demand landscape.

Gold and silver prices opened lower on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) on Wednesday following the Dussehra festival, pulled down by a strengthening US dollar, persistent global inflation concerns, and shifting interest rate expectations from the US Federal Reserve.

Gold futures fell by Rs 223 to trade at Rs 1,46,296 per 10 grams on the MCX, mirroring weak sentiment across overseas bullion markets. Silver experienced a sharper decline, tumbling by Rs 1,373 to trade at Rs 2,10,112 per kilogram.

Market Summary

Gold (MCX): Down Rs 223 at Rs 1,46,296 per 10 grams.Silver (MCX): Down Rs 1,373 at Rs 2,10,112 per kilogram.

Global Benchmark: Both metals traded weaker across international exchanges as the US dollar gained strength.

Primary Drivers: A firm US dollar index, sticky global inflation concerns, and hawkish signals surrounding the US Federal Reserve’s rate trajectory continue to exert downward pressure on precious metal valuations post-festive demand.
