Gold, Silver Futures Display Cautious Sentiment
In international trade, Spot Gold Hovered Near $4,150 Per Ounce, and Spot Silver Stayed Below $61 Per Ounce. Upward Momentum Remained Capped As The US Dollar Index Reached A 18-Month High
Domestic bullion prices held steady with a mild upward bias on Tuesday as investors turned their attention to upcoming US inflation metrics. On the MCX, gold hovered near Rs 1.50 lakh per 10 grams, while silver traded close to Rs 2.23 lakh per kg, echoing cautious sentiment across global markets.
In international trade, spot gold hovered near $4,150 per ounce, and spot silver stayed below $61 per ounce. Upward momentum remained capped as the US Dollar Index reached a 18-month high of 102.5, buoyed by safe-haven demand amid escalating geopolitical friction in the Middle East and Eastern Europe. Elevated crude oil prices—with Brent holding above $105 per barrel despite a 1% intraday dip—further compounded broader market inflation concerns.
Market participants are now eyeing the US Consumer Price Index (CPI) report scheduled for release on Wednesday, followed by Producer Price Index (PPI) figures on Thursday. Ahead of the data, investors are pricing in an 80% likelihood of the Federal Reserve holding interest rates steady this month, with a nearly 88% chance of a rate hike priced in for December.

Navigating Gold Loans During Repo Rate Hikes
The Repo Rate Is Directly Proportional To The Floating Rate Of The Gold Loans.. If The Gold Loan Amount Is Offered At A Fixed Rate, The Repo Rate Does Not Affect The Gold Loan Rate.
As the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) adjusts monetary policy, gold loan borrowers face changing borrowing costs and updated loan-to-value (LTV) framework rules. Understanding how interest rate mechanisms function across financial institutions—and how new regulatory limits affect borrowing capacity—is critical for existing and prospective gold loan clients.
The repo rate is directly proportional to the floating rate of the gold loans.. If the gold loan amount is offered at a fixed rate, the repo rate does not affect the gold loan rate.
How Repo Rate Hikes Impact Gold Loans
The impact of a repo rate increase on a gold loan depends heavily on the loan structure and the type of lender:
- Floating Rate Bank Loans: Bank gold loans linked directly to external benchmarks, such as the RBI repo rate, undergo periodic rate resets following policy adjustments.
- NBFC Loans: Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC) rates are generally determined internally based on the lender’s overall cost of funds, meaning rate adjustments occur at the institution’s discretion.
- Fixed-Rate Loans: Loans with locked interest rates remain unaffected by policy changes for the duration of the tenure, with new rates taking effect only upon loan renewal.
In a rate-tightening environment, a drop in gold prices alongside rising interest rates creates compounding financial pressure. If collateral values drop significantly, loan-to-value ratios can exceed regulatory thresholds. In such cases, lenders may issue margin calls requiring borrowers to make partial repayments or pledge additional collateral.
