DGFT Speeds Up Silver Imports Through IIBX & Nominated Agencies
The New Trade Facilitation Measure Provides Eligible Importers With Faster Processing While Maintaining Strict Regulatory Oversight.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has introduced a streamlined, self-declaration route to expedite import authorisations for silver bullion, significantly facilitating access through the India International Bullion Exchange (IIBX) and nominated agencies.
The new trade facilitation measure provides eligible importers with faster processing while maintaining strict regulatory oversight.
Key highlights of the new notification
- Faster Approvals: Eligible applicants can now receive expedited processing via a simplified self-declaration mechanism.
- Procurement Channels: Silver imports must be procured through the India International Bullion Exchange (IIBX) or authorized banks and nominated agencies.
- Fixed Validity: Authorizations issued under this route will be valid for six months and cannot be extended.
- Applicable Duties: Imports will be subject to the Most Favoured Nation (MFN) customs duty rates without claiming additional duty concessions.
Kirit Bhansali, Chairman, GJEPC said:

“This notification is an important step towards making silver more accessible to our members. With GJEPC RCMC holders recognised as Qualified Jewellers on IIBX, our members can access silver through the exchange. The simplified procedure will make it easier for eligible applicants to obtain import authorisations and procure silver through IIBX at international prices, subject to applicable duties and policy conditions.”
GJEPC is actively pursuing the notification of IIBX for silver exports and seeking similar streamlined import mechanisms for gold, noting that progress on silver strengthens the case for gold and other restricted HS codes.
