Gold and Silver Prices Navigate Volatility Amid Crucial US FED Policy Meeting

Market Analysts Attribute The Recent Pressure On Bullion To Rising Crude Oil Prices and Ongoing Global Inflation Concerns. Elevated Energy Costs Risk Prolonging Central Bank Hawkishness, Maintaining Higher Bond Yields and Maintaining Strength In The US Dollar.

Precious metals in the domestic Indian market experienced mixed trading on Tuesday morning as investors adopt a cautious approach ahead of the US Federal Reserve’s upcoming monetary policy decision and shifting macroeconomic indicators.

In early trade, spot retail gold prices in New Delhi showed a mild uptick. 24-carat gold edged up to Rs 1,42,910 per 10 grams, compared to Rs 1,42,900 recorded in the previous session. 22-carat gold reached Rs 1,31,000 per 10 grams, while 18-carat gold remained stable at Rs 1,07,180 per 10 grams.

Despite the marginal daily gain, physical gold remains down roughly Rs 3,320 per 10 grams from its mid-month high of Rs 1,46,230 recorded on October 20.

Key Commodity Highlights:

  • MCX Gold Futures: On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold futures traded lower by Rs 215 (0.2%) at Rs 1,42,858 per 10 grams, moving within an intraday band of Rs 1,42,581 to Rs 1,42,982.
  • MCX Silver Futures: Silver experienced steeper losses in early futures trading, sliding nearly Rs 1,400 to trade around Rs 1,94,400 per kilogram after hitting an intraday low of Rs 1,93,555.
  • Spot Silver Rates: National retail rates for 999 fine silver held at Rs 1,94,560 per kilogram (Rs 19,456 per 100 grams). Tiered purity rates stood at Rs 1,79,968 per kg for 925 sterling silver, Rs 1,75,104 per kg for 900-grade silver, and Rs 1,55,648 per kg for 800-grade silver.
  • Platinum: Physical platinum in domestic trade was quoted at Rs 47,230 per 10 grams.

Market Outlook and Pressures

The current price action follows a sharp weekly correction on the MCX, where gold dipped by nearly 4% and silver contracted by over 7%.

Market analysts attribute the recent pressure on bullion to rising crude oil prices and ongoing global inflation concerns. Elevated energy costs risk prolonging central bank hawkishness, maintaining higher bond yields and maintaining strength in the US dollar.

Bullion traders and market participants are closely monitoring the Federal Reserve’s upcoming policy announcements and economic commentary. Outlooks provided by the Fed will be decisive in determining whether precious metals will stabilize or face further downside in the near term.
