Guyana Targets Gold and Jewellery Hub Status By 2030
The Government Is Deploying A 15-Point Structural Reform Program Designed To Modernize Processing Infrastructure, Capture Higher Margins Via Beneficiation, and Broaden Its Non-Oil Export Base
Flush with capital from its offshore energy boom, Guyana is pivoting toward aggressive downstream diversification, laying out a state-backed roadmap to transform the South American nation into a premier global hub for refined gold and fine jewelry by 2030.
The initiative, conceived by President Irfaan Ali, represents a deliberate push up the commodities value chain. Rather than relying solely on upstream raw mineral extraction, the government is deploying a 15-point structural reform program designed to modernize processing infrastructure, capture higher margins via beneficiation, and broaden its non-oil export base.
Speaking on the Starting Point podcast, Dominic Gaskin, technical consultant to the Ministry of Natural Resources, characterized the framework as a fundamental pivot toward a technology-driven, high-scale manufacturing ecosystem. The goal, Gaskin noted, is to establish trade equity for Guyanese gold on par with the market footprint achieved by its offshore crude output.
At the core of the market-access strategy is “El Dorado Reimagined,” a centralized sovereign brand administered by the Guyana Gold Board’s program management unit. Functioning as a licensing architecture rather than an individual assay hallmark, the intellectual property framework allows qualified domestic jewelers to aggregate under a unified national banner for cross-border market penetration, trade syndication, and sovereign-backed digital marketing.
To address long-standing market frictions—namely consumer trust and opacity in the supply chain—the Ministry is establishing strict regulatory covenants for license holders. Jewelers will face mandatory compliance protocols governing precious metals and gemstone assays across gold, silver, platinum, palladium, and diamonds.
The framework also institutionalizes operational transparency, requiring non-cash point-of-sale integration and itemized transaction reporting. Crucially, the licensing standards prioritize provenance and ESG compliance: participating jewelers must source feedstock through legal and traceable channels, anchored by direct procurement from the Guyana Gold Board.
Policymakers project the supply-side reforms will drive foreign direct investment, workforce upskilling, and net export volumes over a two- to three-year horizon. If executed effectively, Georgetown’s strategy could establish a resilient secondary engine of economic growth, turning sovereign mineral wealth into sustainable, high-margin industrial capacity.

Van Cleef & Arpels Gives Its Iconic Alhambra a Pink Enamel Makeover
The Maison Introduces Five New Alhambra Creations Featuring Translucent Pink Enamel and Yellow Gold
Van Cleef & Arpels has unveiled a vibrant new chapter for its iconic Alhambra collection, introducing translucent pink enamel to the signature four-leaf clover motif for the first time. The new creations combine the Maison’s emblem of luck with yellow gold, bringing a fresh, contemporary expression to the enduring design.
The new five-piece selection comprises a Vintage Alhambra pendant, five-motif bracelet, 10-motif necklace, 20-motif long necklace and Magic Alhambra two-motif earrings. The earrings additionally feature guilloché yellow gold, adding texture and contrast to the pink enamel.

The distinctive pink is the result of several years of research at Van Cleef & Arpels’ enamel workshops. Inspired by the historic 17th-century “gold-ruby” technique, the colour is created using fine particles of gold rather than traditional pigments. Carefully controlled particle size, shape and concentration produce the desired translucent hue.
Adding to its visual depth, the enamel contains tiny bubbles, giving each Alhambra motif a distinctive character while creating subtle variations as the surface catches and reflects light. The motifs are framed by the Maison’s signature gold beaded contours, further enhancing the interplay between the pink enamel and yellow gold.
Since its debut in 1968, Alhambra has continually evolved through different stones, materials and colours while retaining its instantly recognisable four-leaf clover silhouette. The introduction of enamel marks another significant step in that evolution, bringing together heritage craftsmanship, technical innovation and contemporary colour.
With its new pink interpretation, Van Cleef & Arpels continues to reinvent one of jewellery’s most recognisable motifs, demonstrating how traditional savoir-faire can give a familiar icon an entirely new expression.
