Shree Ramkrishna Exports (SRK), a global leader in natural diamond crafting and export, has made remarkable strides in its sustainability efforts, including achieving the lowest emissions in diamond crafting processes. SRK has achieved a 34% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions per carat compared to the global industry average, as verified and validated by an independent third-party certification body.
Renowned for its many industry firsts in diamond craftsmanship, sustainability, and philanthropic efforts, the billion-dollar revenue company with broader commitments in conjunction with United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) as far as United Nations Sustainability Development Goals (UNSDGs) are concerned. In May 2024, SRK was also recognized by being the world’s first company with Net-Zero Energy and LEED: Platinum Green buildings. Embracing a holistic "cradle-to-grave" approach, SRK ensures sustainability at every stage of the natural diamond lifecycle — from raw material extraction to the end-of-life phase. This comprehensive methodology makes SRK's environmental efforts both thorough and measurable.
The reduction in GHG emissions per carat of diamond, along with the verification across the entire diamond supply chain, has been validated by Deutsch Quality Systems (India) Private Limited, a renowned global ISO certification body known for its audits, assessments, and training services. This verification process fully complies with international standards, including the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, ISO 14064, and ISO 14067.
As of November 2024, emissions per carat of SRK’s natural diamonds stood at 70.49 kgCO2e — a benchmark for the industry. Looking ahead, SRK aims to further reduce emissions by increasing its reliance on renewable energy, particularly solar power, across its crafting facilities. An update on this progress will be shared publicly soon.
“We are focused on creating lasting, purely positive impact, not just for our business but for the global natural diamond industry,” said Dr. Nirav Mandir, Chief Human Capital & Sustainability Officer of SRK. “By addressing Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions and now targeting Scope 3, we are building a sustainable future that will benefit both our industry and the planet.”
By the virtue of it additionally, SRK continues to be the most compliant companies in the industry, with the highest number of ISO certifications, showcasing their commitment to quality, ESG responsibility, and of course the health & safety aspects. The company’s Net Zero Energy accomplishment was driven by their adoption of renewable energy sources like rooftop solar power, along with waste management and sewage treatment initiatives that have drastically reduced its carbon footprint, and its Net-Zero efforts for Water, Waste, and Carbon are underway.
With its pioneering efforts, SRK is leading the way in reshaping the natural diamond industry, proving that luxury can also coexist with sustainability. By setting these new benchmarks, SRK is driving the world toward a more sustainable and eco-conscious future.
