A high-level delegation from the state-funded Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), associated with the Korean Embassy in India, visited the GJEPC Regional Office in Delhi on 19th November. The delegates were welcomed by Mr. Anil Sankhwal, Regional Chairman – North, GJEPC.

The meeting focused on exploring opportunities in the Indian lab-grown diamond (LGD) sector. The talks centred on global primary markets for LGDs and insights on LGD manufacturing facilities. The visit was coordinated by Mr. Sanjeev Bhatia, Regional Director – North, GJEPC.

Mr. Anil Sankhwal raised concerns regarding the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between India and Korea. The Korean delegation assured that they would engage with the Korean Embassy in Delhi to explore potential solutions and address these concerns. He also encouraged the Korean buyers to participate in the IIJS Premiere Show and Buyer-Seller Meets (BSM) either in India or Korea to facilitate direct business interactions based on specific product demands.

Following the visit to the Indian Institute of Gemmology and Jewellery (IIGJ) Regional Lab Centre, the KOTRA delegation expressed appreciation for the Council’s contributions to the growth and development of the Indian gems and jewellery industry.
