Empowering and honouring artisans
IBJA presented the Artisan Upliftment Programme Awards to seven artisans, recognising and honouring them for their creativity and skills.
From 2-8 Aug, 2023, IBJA conducted Artisan Upliftment Programme at IBJA House, Mumbai, where artisans showcased their creations. Over 6000 visitors attended the programme. The Artisan Upliftment Programme Awards was held on 9 Aug 2023 as a culmination of the conducted Artisan Upliftment Programme week.
The Artisan Upliftment Programme Awards were powered by World Gold Council and supported by Bengali Swarna Shilpi Kalyan Sangha. JewelBuzz was one of the Official Media Partners.
The artisans honoured were Samir Maji, Srikanta Bera,Sujit Bera,Ramhari Dey, Akramal Shaikh, Rabindranath Maity and Sushil Maji.
Prithviraj Kothari, National President-IBJA, Dr. Chetan Kumar Mehta. National Vice-President- IBJA, Surendra Mehta, National Secretary – IBJA, Ajit Mauskar, Director, Market Infrastructure -India, WGC, Kalidas Sinha Roy, Secretary, Bengali Swarna Shilpi Kalyan Sangh, Rajaram Deshmukh, Chairman, Goldsmiths Coordination Committee, members of the Bengali Swarna Shilpi Kalyan Sangh and other dignitaries and stakeholders were present at the occasion.
Prithviraj Kothari,said this initiative by IBJA was for artisans upliftment and improve their working and living conditions. "We have to ensure that the Bengali karigar skills and tradition has to be kept alive. And, be presented on a global platform." He thanked Surendra Mehta, National Secretary, IBJA for his tireless efforts in putting the Artisan Upliftment Programme together.
Ajit Mauskar, Director, Market Infrastructure -India, WGC said that WGC is committed to work with karigars and showcase their skills and talents globally. "This event should be held annually; with GJ industry and trade supporting it."
Rajaram Deshmukh, Chairman, Goldsmiths Coordination Committee said " This is a great initiative by IBJA. I am happy to see the karigars and stakeholders of jewellery industry under one roof.The welfare and upliftment of artisans will not only benefit the karigars,but benefit the overall jewellery industry."
Kalidas Sinha Roy, Secretary, Bengali Swarna Shilpi Kalyan thanked Prithviraj Kothari, Surendra Mehta, WGC for their efforts in putting this initiative together. "The karigar is the base, the foundation of the jewellery sector; if the base is strong then nothing can shake the jewellery industry. I am looking forward to a bigger and better Artisans Upliftment Programme next year."
Surendra Mehta, National Secretary - IBJA thanked the karigars, Bengali Swarna Shilpi Kalyan Sangha, WGC for contributing to the success of Artisans Upliftment Programme. "This programme was an experiment, and it has been successful. This is just the beginning – the journey is long, and we have much work to do.IBJA will always be committed to upliftment and welfare of the artisans. In the future, training programmes on education, skill development and marketing will be conducted."
