GJSCI Secures 5th Medallion of Excellence at WorldSkills Competition

The Gem & Jewellery Skill Council of India (GJSCI) secured the prestigious Medallion of Excellence Award at the World Skills Competition that took place from 10 to 15 September in Lyon, France. This marks another significant achievement for GJSCI, which has consistently excelled in the competition over the years.

GJSCI’s 17-year-old candidate, Tufan Mal, from West Bengal, showcased remarkable talent in jewellery making to clinch the coveted award. His journey from a small town to the global stage is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and the support he received from GJSCI and industry experts.

The World Skills Competition, a premier platform for showcasing skills and talent, has witnessed GJSCI’s consistent success. The GJSCI has secured multiple Medallion of Excellence awards in previous editions, reflecting India’s growing expertise in the gem and jewellery sector.

Adil Kotwal, Chairman, GJSCI, said, “We are thrilled to see our candidates excel on the global stage. This win is a proud moment for India and a reflection of our country’s rich heritage in gem and jewellery craftsmanship.”

Rajeev Garg, CEO, GJSCI, added, “This achievement is a result of our candidates’ tireless efforts and commitment to excellence. We are honoured to have represented India at this prestigious competition.”

GJSCI acknowledged the contribution of Anupam Karmakar, who played a major role in honing Tufan’s skills and preparing him for the World Skills Competition. Additionally, GJSCI said it is indebted to jewellery manufacturing firm Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers (VBJ), Chennai, for their strong support and partnership in providing training to Tufan.
