Ray lauded the government’s proactive stance in promoting the gem and jewellery sector, citing key initiatives such as the Indo-UAE CEPA, Indo-Australian ECTA, and Indo-European TEPA. He emphasized GJEPC’s crucial role in bringing these policies to fruition, thereby opening new markets and boosting exports.
The GJEPC Executive Director also shed light on the Council’s active engagement with the government to align the new definition of a ‘diamond’ with India’s consumer laws. By leading consultations with the Consumer Affairs Ministry, GJEPC ensured that the new definition aligns with industry standards and consumer interests. Mr. Ray expressed gratitude to the Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs, Smt. Nidhi Khare, for her support in finalizing the new diamond terminology. Moreover, Mr. Ray highlighted GJEPC’s efforts in securing an exemption for jewellery exports from mandatory hallmarking.
