Lab grown growers, manufacturers and retailers are uniting with the launch of a new trade body - the Grown Diamond Trade Organization (GDTO) - which says it will "create a single voice to the consumer".
It also pledges to address concerns about the high cost of traditional diamond grading reports particularly for lab grown diamonds, with the introduction of its Grown Diamond Jewelry Reports.
The reports are "attestations" from manufacturers about the specification of their goods - finished jewelry rather than loose stones - and in are in no way based on any lab tests. They are designed to provide peace of mind that the goods supplied are as described.Prices are between $3 and $10 per report, depending on the complexity of the jewelry item.
"We don't call them grading certificates because that both confuses the consumer and invariably leads down the path of mined vs manufactured diamonds," said the GDTO."We are not interested in being compared to mined diamonds nor are we interested in creating yet another gemological certification."
