The European Commission has approved €81 million in Spanish state aid to support Diamond Foundry Europe’s establishment of a semiconductor-grade synthetic diamond production facility in Trujillo, Extremadura. The €675 million plant will use advanced plasma reactor technology to produce synthetic diamond wafers for key sectors such as 5G networks and electric vehicles. Designed to be carbon-neutral and powered by renewable energy, the facility is expected to create 300 direct jobs and additional indirect employment. With an annual production capacity of 4-5 million carats, the project aligns with EU priorities for economic growth, job creation, and the green transition. The Commission emphasized that the initiative will have a positive regional impact while minimizing competitive distortions.
