Paul Rowley, Executive Vice President, De Beers – Global Sightholder Sales, met with the GJEPC leadership including Chairman Vipul Shah; Vice Chairman Kirit Bhansali, and officials from the Council’s Diamond Panel, namely, Ajesh Mehta, Convener; Saunak Parikh, Co-Convener; Milan Chokshi, Member; Russell Mehta, Co-Opted Member; as well as Sabyasachi Ray, Executive Director, at the GJEPC head office in Mumbai on 22nd November.
The dialogue covered a broad range of topics including market stability, production strategies, and emerging marketing approaches amid evolving global trends. Both parties affirmed their commitment to laying the foundations for a promising 2025.
Rowley attributed challenges to destocking, especially in China, where diamond consumption has halved, creating a ripple effect in the midstream sector. However, he expressed optimism, noting that destocking is nearing equilibrium and the US market shows signs of steady demand. He stressed the importance of maintaining supply discipline, avoiding oversupply, and ensuring sustainable growth.
